A fair number of the founders who get in touch with us are not ready to spend money on ads, and we tell them so. Usually they are pre-revenue, or spending a few hundred pounds a month, or still working out who actually buys the thing. Paid advertising is the most expensive way to answer those questions.

What those founders need first is not an agency. It is other founders who are eighteen months ahead of them and will tell them the truth. So here is the place we point them, written up properly rather than mentioned in passing on a call.

## What Ramen Club actually is

[Ramen Club](https://ramenclub.com/) is a Slack community of more than 400 bootstrapped SaaS founders, run by Charlie Ward. The name is the honest part. Ramen profitable means the business covers your living costs, and that is the milestone the whole community is pointed at, rather than a funding round or a logo wall.

Alongside the Slack there are weekly events: demo days, founder interviews, expert workshops and virtual coworking. There are in-house mentors covering growth, sales, validation, legal and AI, and a stack of partner discounts. There is also Ramen Space, a founder coworking spot in Dalston, for anyone in London who would rather not work alone.

Membership is £25 a month, or £170 once for lifetime access, with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Member companies include VEED.IO, Senja, Tiiny Host, Data Fetcher, Adaptify and MentorCruise, so the people in there are shipping real products rather than talking about it.

## Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits you if you are building a bootstrapped software business and your main problem is that nobody around you understands what you are doing. It suits you if you want feedback on pricing, onboarding or a landing page from people who have shipped their own. And it suits you if £25 a month is an easier decision than a £2,000 consultant.

It will not suit you if you want a course with modules and a certificate, or if you are funded and hiring and your questions are about org charts. It is a community, not a curriculum. You get out of it roughly what you put in, which is true of every good community and worth saying plainly.

## Where paid ads come in, and when they do not

We run Google, Meta and LinkedIn ads for [SaaS and B2B companies](/saas-paid-ads-agency/), and our honest threshold is a minimum ad spend of £2,500 a month per platform. Below that, [the numbers move too slowly to learn anything](/what-is-the-minimum-you-should-spend-on-google-and-facebook-advertising/), and you end up paying for an education rather than customers.

If you are under that line, spend the money on the product and the audience instead. Get to the point where people are already buying without ads, where you know what a customer is worth, and where you could fund three months of testing without flinching. Then ads are a multiplier rather than a gamble.

If you are past that point and want someone to look at the account properly, [book a free audit](/get-in-touch/) and we will tell you what we would do with your budget. And if you are not there yet, join Ramen Club, do the work, and come back when the ads will actually pay for themselves.
